Resizing Quilt Patterns Part 2 from Flying Parrot Quilts

In Part 1 of this series, we covered adding blocks to your quilt and resizing paper piecing patterns and other blocks made up of templates. In Part 2, we’re going to talk about what to do when you can’t just add more blocks to a quilt design because it will change the design, and instead you need to resize the whole quilt pattern. Here’s an example of a quilt I’ve sometimes gotten questions about resizing, my Meeting of the Geese lap quilt:

Resizing Quilt Patterns Part 1 from Flying Parrot Quilts

A question I get frequently is whether or not one of my quilt patterns can be resized. So, I thought I’d put together a little guide on how you can do that! There are three ways to resize a quilt pattern:

  1. Adding blocks
  2. Resizing blocks (e.g. paper pieced blocks)
  3. Resizing the entire quilt design (or traditionally pieced blocks)

SUPER SIZE - The Math from Sew Fresh Quilts


How to change the size of any traditionally pieced quilt block.



Over the years, there have been a few occasions where a quilter has written to ask how to double the size of a block, as in the case of the Dog Block from the Dog Gone Cute design.
